Course Creation Platform Design
for CAMBIO LABS
CLIENT: Cambio Labs is a NYC nonprofit that creates educational programs that transform students into founders of businesses and organizations driven by social and environmental missions. Their online learning platform, Journey, incorporates elements of gaming (points systems, competition, prizes, achievements, and more) to drive engagement.
PROBLEM: To initiate the development of a new course, instructors are currently required to utilize a course creation tool that lacks user-friendliness and intuitive navigation, thus limiting their ability to personalize the course content.

MY ROLE: Lead UX Researcher, Generative Data Synthesis and Insight Finding, UX/UI Design, UX Design
TIMELINE: October 2023 - January 2024 (3 months)
OBJECTIVE: Create a user-friendly, customizable course content creation platform that enables instructors and course content creators to effortlessly build their own gamified courses by selectively curating components from an existing set of elements.
SOLUTION: We created an engaging platform with a bulk uploader and customizable, modular lesson planning utilizing Cambio’s elements of multimedia, prompts, challenges, and resources. We also created a simple built-in training as users preferred intuition as the driving navigator for moving through the Journey platform.
FOUR RESEARCH GOALS:
1. Identify unmet user needs outside Cambio Labs tools and resources
2. Identify unmet user needs from those who have used Cambio Labs current framework.
3. Discover evidence-based opportunities for desiging a new course content management system that aligns with the unmet user needs.
4. Validate iterations with user studies to develop a final prototype.

COMPETITIVE
ANALYSIS
We reviewed several
course content
management systems such as Canvas, Thinkific, and
Udemy and found that they
can either be too hard to navigate, need too much training, or
sometimes changes made in
one place just do not get reflected where one would think it should
also appear.
